mooDAQ ® – series

What is “mooDAQ®”?

mooDAQ® is a new registered brandname for a new productline developed by MoonWorks BV. Under the brandname mooDAQ® many modules will be developed in the coming years. That’s why the productline will be called mooDAQ®-series.

This new system looks like a standard PLC, but it is not. It is a modular Data Acquisition System powered by a High Performance 32bit ARM® Cortex-M7 core processor. It is one of the fastest processors for industrial use running a Real Time Operating System (RTOS) as OS. It is expected that it will pass the perfomance of a standard PLC.

The mooDAQ® module “CU-001” is the Central Unit. It’s the base for every measurement and control system. With the base system you could communicate with several devices over CAN, RS232, RS485, Ethernet. It has 24bit and 16 bit Analog-to-Digital Converters and 1x 16 bit Digital-to-Analog Converter onboard to process analog signals.

The CU-001 is able to handle 2 encoders (A/B) as speed reference or position. Or you can use the encoder inputs as 4 frequency measurements. With two digital inputs and two external powered digital outputs the system is very versatile and can do any job you like.

To prevent ground loops, all inputs, outputs and all digital communications are isolated from eachother and from the backplane.

If you need more analog inputs/outputs or more digital inputs/outputs, you can expand the channels easily by adding a modular module. With this advantage you can start with the base and expand as needed. There is no redesign needed on PCB level, which saves time and money.

If, by circumstances, an IO failes to work properly, the IO-module can be easily replaced without unscrewing the wires! By using a connector clicking technique it will not introduce accidental connection failures. The replacement saves time and money. Your measurement and control setup will be fast up and running again.

Running the industry CANopen on a CAN FD network it is possible to handle 127 additional “slaves”. Each slave can be and do anything.

Possible IO slaves:

  • mooDAQ® 8 channel analog input/RTD/strain gauge
  • mooDAQ® 4 or 8 channel analog output
  • mooDAQ® 8 channel digital input/output
  • mooDAQ® 1 or 2 channel encoder input
  • mooDAQ® 4 or 8 channel relay output
  • mooDAQ® DC-motor speed control
  • etc
